Design for AM – A Focus on Polymers

Design for AM – A Focus on Polymers

Polymer Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes are receiving increasing interest across a range of industrial sectors.

Hosted in collaboration with Candice Majewski from the University of Sheffield this free online event will provide an insight into the opportunities presented by polymer AM, how to get the best out of polymer AM processes, and where we might be heading in the future.

Candice has been involved in the area of Additive Manufacturing since 2000. Her main research focus is on polymer-based processes (in particular polymer sintering technologies), although her teaching and Outreach activities span the broader context and applications of Additive Manufacturing.

During this one-day event we will hear from a range of academic and industrial speakers, before spending some time discussing the developments needed to take polymer AM to the next level of industrial suitability.

Speakers will include:

  • Luke Fox from Jaguar Land Rover – Current limitations of polymer AM from an automotive perspective
  • Guy Bingham from NTU – Design opportunities presented by polymer AM
  • Mark Cocking from AMRC – Examples of polymer AM from design, through printing and into final use
  • Martin Kirk from Laser Lines – An overview of several of the main AM processes and how they can apply to industry and academia.

More speakers to be confirmed.

We are also keen to highlight the excellent research being carried out by early career researchers in the area of polymer AM, and as part of this event we will be hosting a ‘three-minute research’ competition.  Participants will have a maximum of three minutes to present a summary of their most exciting polymer AM research, with a prize for the most engaging talk.  This competition is open to anyone who considers themselves to be early career stage.

If you would like to be considered for a 3-minute research slot, please complete this short form.
